Today is Forged Friday at New Species CrossFit. Earlier this week a majority of our athletes took part in a Memorial Day CrossFit tradition by performing “Murph”. The workout is one that honors Navy Lieutenant Michael Patrick Murphy. As many of you know, this workout has become a great sign of patriotism and recognition of our fallen Heroes on Memorial Day.
During the mission in which Lieutenant Michael Murphy’s SEAL Team fell under attack, an MH-47 Chinook helicopter, with eight additional SEALs and eight Army Night Stalkers aboard, was sent in as part of an extraction mission to pull out the four embattled SEALs. As the Chinook raced to the battle, a rocket-propelled grenade struck the helicopter, killing all 16 men aboard.
The overall mission was known as “Operation Red Wings”.
Today’s WOD is in honor of the 16 men and all the KIAs who died during Operation RedWings. As coaches and athletes, we ask that you find your upper limits both mentally and physically so that together, we can commemorate this tragic day in military history.
